Spring has sprung! We’ve been feeling inspired by all the cherry blossoms outside and thinking about ways to bring spring flowers into our Village House homes. From vases to wreaths and garlands, there are so many ways you can incorporate flowers into your home. Below we’ll discuss some of our favorite tips for channeling the beauty of spring flowers in your home décor.
Floral Wreath
One alternative way of styling flowers is in a floral wreath. They are often displayed on the front door so that they can be seen by anyone who enters the home. This is a great way to set a welcoming and warm tone for your home. However, there are also various other ways you can display a floral wreath.
Wreaths can be hung against windows to add some interest and direct your attention outside. You can make use of other doors in your home too, and display a wreath on one of these doors, such as the door to your bathroom. They can also be hung against walls, so you could hang one in your living room, bedroom, or kitchen as a feature. Since they are often associated with welcoming, you could hang one in your entryway.
You can either make your own or buy one at a florist or plant shop. There are also plenty of artificial floral wreaths in home décor stores. When making your own, you can either make evergreen wreaths, dried wreaths, or even fresh flower wreaths.
Try a seasonal floral wreath to coordinate the décor in your home with what is going on outside. In spring, that may mean incorporating tulips, flowering herbs, wisteria, peonies, and other spring flowers and foliage.
Dried Flowers
If you want real flowers in your home, dried flowers are the easiest way to have blooms in your home. You can display dried flowers just like fresh flowers by styling a bunch of them in a vase, a wreath, or a single dried flower in a small vessel. Unlike fresh flowers, however, they should last for months, if not years.
There are plenty of shops and florists selling dried flowers. These should last for a very long time since they’ve been properly dried out. However, they can be costly. Instead, you could consider drying your own! Just before a bouquet of fresh flowers starts to droop, take them out of the water. You can then hang each flower upside-down until it dries out completely. This works for some varieties better than others, such as hydrangeas, lavender, roses, and pansies, for example, but it’s always worth having a try with any flowers!
You can display flowers even while they are in the drying process. You could carefully make a wall of flowers if you can find a safe washi tape to stick each flower to the wall. Make sure you check that it won’t pull the wallpaper off! Or you could hang bunches of flowers drying upside down with string.
To make sure the dried flowers last longer, make sure that you avoid humidity, as it can make the petals turn brown.
Rethinking Table Flowers
Have you considered floating florals? This is where you cut off the stems of flowers and sit the flower heads on top of a bowl of water to float. The flowers should last longer than they would if you left the stems on. As well as this, it’s a great opportunity to experiment with new ways of arranging flowers.
You could combine your table flower display with candles to make a centerpiece.
Foraging for wildflowers, especially those that are generally considered to be weeds, is a fun and cheap way of creating a floral display for your table. For a personal touch, try growing your own flowers, which you can then arrange in different ways.
You can change up your table flowers simply by choosing an unexpected flower, such as ornamental cabbages, or different kinds of dried flowers and greenery. This leads us to one of the most beautiful ways to display spring flowers, ikebana.
Ikebana
The traditional art of ikebana has been around for centuries, so what better time than now to start incorporating it into your home? Some of the aims of ikebana include learning to appreciate the beauty of flowers and plants, but also learning how to calm your mind and find inner peace while working with these natural materials in silence.
Ikebana is a great way to deepen your understanding of the different seasons, as you can change your displays frequently throughout the seasons. If you would like to learn more about ikebana, there are a lot of schools across the country dedicated to teaching the art.
Flower Vase
When we see bouquets, they are normally associated with vases. This is one of the most popular ways of displaying flowers. When using a flower vase, think about the placement to change things up. They work well on side tables and other flat furniture so that you can have them on different levels. A flower vase looks great in the entryway of a home. If you have the space, consider putting a vase on a small table at the entrance to a home or in a corridor to breathe life into the space.
You may want multiple vases of flowers in your home. You could coordinate these by breaking up a big bouquet into small bunches. Or, you could have contrasting displays or even single flower displays.
Think about what vases you can use. Some displays may suit a simple glass vase or something with a natural color and standard shape. Other displays may benefit from a statement vase; abstract-shaped vases are particularly popular now.
We hope these tips help you think about ways you may want to incorporate spring flowers into your apartment. Flowers are a beautiful way to stay in touch with what is happening in the natural world outside our homes and feel connected to nature. Since different flowers bloom at different times, floral displays provide a fun opportunity to refresh your home frequently to reflect the changing seasons. Happy spring!
