Home parties have become increasingly popular as well. If you’re hosting a Halloween get-together, you may want to get your home decorated and ready for the festivities! Here’s our guide on decorations and bringing Halloween into your rental home.

Traditional Halloween Decoration Ideas

The most iconic Halloween decoration is the pumpkin lantern. You can make a whole event out of pumpkin carving. Consider making it a family challenge or inviting some friends over for a pumpkin carving challenge. You can find pumpkins to carve at supermarkets and make sure to get some candles or lights that you can stick inside the pumpkins. When you carve out the pumpkins, save the insides and seeds to make some tasty autumnal food!

Most houses in countries like the US will have a bowl of sweets and other snack foods ready for any children who come and trick or treat. Though trick or treating is quite rare in Japan, it can still be fun to have a bowl of sweets as decoration, and you can simply enjoy them with your guests!

Another popular Halloween decoration is the skeleton. You can find plastic skeletons at Don Quijote or 100 yen stores, or you could draw some skeleton motifs and stick them around your home. For a reusable DIY skeleton decoration, try painting skeletons onto sheets and old fabric.

100 Yen Store Halloween Decorations

A 100 yen store is a perfect place to find some cheap pieces to decorate Daiso and Seria are some of the best places for buying Halloween decorations for your home.

The Halloween products at any 100 yen store will change each year; but you can expect to find goods such as witch hats, stickers, banners, Halloween-themed kitchenware, and plenty more. If you can’t get hold of the traditional orange pumpkins to carve, you will probably be able to find plastic pumpkin lanterns at a 100 yen store.

Witch hats and cat ears make a great Halloween decoration since you can also double them up as costumes in case anyone visits your home and forgets!

Most 100 yen stores will stock Halloween banners like pumpkin, black cat, skeleton, and spider banners which you can drape across your home. You may be able to find removable wallpaper and stickers too.

Cobweb Decorations

One easy way to make your home feel spooky is by draping cobweb decorations all around it. You can find fake cobweb material online, or you may also be able to find it in a 100 yen store or Don Quijote. If you’re buying the artificial cobweb material, please be wary of putting it outside as insects and other wildlife may get tangled up in it!

You can also make cobwebs out of cotton balls and hairspray. All you have to do is carefully stretch out the cotton wool balls and then use hairspray to hold them in place. Then you can hang them all over your home. If you can find large cotton balls, these are easier to use.

For an alternative cobweb decoration, you could purchase LED light strips and design a cobweb formation with them. This will work wonderfully if you’re having a Halloween party at night! You can do this with strings of fairy lights too.

Removable Wallpaper

If you’re looking for a quick and easy item to purchase that will add a Halloween-like feel to your home, you may want to consider removable wallpaper. Removable wallpaper is popular for decorating homes in Japan, both for Halloween and at Christmas.

100 yen stores often stock season removable wallpaper and removable wall and window stickers. If you can’t find any removable wallpaper at Daiso or Seria, you may want to look at Don Quijote, or even order some online.

Last Minute Easy DIY Decorations

If you don’t want to purchase any decorations, whether you’re trying to save money, or if you’ve just run out of time, there are still plenty of things you can do to bring a little bit of Halloween into your home!

First off, sheets. If you’ve got any sheets, you can drape them over bits of furniture or hang them to make them look like ghosts. White sheets are ideal, but if you’ve not got any white sheets, anything will do!

If you have some yarn or string around the house, you can make DIY cobwebs. Cut and tie the yarn into cobweb shapes and hang them around your home.

For a cheap DIY skeleton, you could get some sheets of white card, a black pen, and split pins. It’s a bit time-consuming, but this skeleton will be a very impressive Halloween centerpiece! Draw the skeleton bones onto the card and cut them out. You can then use split pins to connect each bone – and there you have it! You can make large life-size versions of this skeleton, or you can soak smaller ones. You can move each limb thanks to the split pins, so children will love playing with it!
