They are impressive works of nature that are naturally formed by the\nrun-off from the snow of Mt.Fuji. They create a beautiful scene when you can\nview from the air and the ground. Each lake has some defining characteristic\nthat sets them apart from the others. It has been fed\ninto by the many rivers that drain from the nearby mountain. It is the main\noutlet for the Seta River and has some of the most beautiful beaches in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lake was\nestablished as a town in the Japan\u2019s Edo period and was named Biwa because it\nwas shaped like the strings of the instrument. It mostly serves as a\nfresh-water reservoir for Kyoto and Otsu. The lake is home to many types of\nfish and other wildlife and is a nature lovers dream when it comes to taking\nphotographs. Lately, there has been an invasion of foreign fish in the lake,\nand the ecosystem there has taken a hit. They have even caught a largemouth\nbass that tied the world record for weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lake has a\nday named after it and it is protected by many environmental legislations. The\nvegetation around the lake has been designated for protection to ensure future\ngenerations can enjoy the area. They have a good tourist economy that is\ngrowing every year, and they have many attractions to keep people entertained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vhbloglive.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/2-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4668\" width=\"768\" height=\"400\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attractions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a\nsurprising amount of activities and places to see in the local area. Many are\ngreat for those looking to see some of the traditional buildings of Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ukimido Temple<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This old temple\nis known for its incredible view of the lake. It is one of the Eight Views of\nOmi. It was founded by an old Buddhist priest to help ensure the safety and\nserenity of the lake and the surrounding area. It is designated as a cultural\nsite and is not open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biwako Valley<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great\nway to experience the true natural side of the area. The beautiful scenery of Biwako\nValley changes dramatically with each season. During winter it becomes a ski\nresort and from the spring to fall it is open for camping and hiking. From\nskiing to hiking, camping to zip-lining, Biwako Valley offers a wide variety of\nattractions for the outdoor enthusiast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kusatsu Mizunomori Lotus Pond<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a garden\nthat has many aquatic plants. This is unusual for typical Japanese gardens, and\nit is well-known for having the largest number of water lilies in the country.\nSeasonal flowers also bloom in large numbers and change the look of the parking\narea. There are multiple baths for visitors to\nuse and you can enjoy your time with the family. You can enjoy the training\nrooms and the restaurant there as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Water Channel Tour<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This lake tour\ntakes you around Lake Nishinoko and is a gentle cruise style trip. You can\nenjoy the scenery while riding the old-style Japanese boat and you can reserve\nlunches to be served while you ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hikone Castle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This castle has\nbeen designated as a national treasure and is the old house of the Li family.\nThe Li family was known for helping open Japan to the rest of the world. The\nwalls were built using special building techniques and you will be able to see\nthree large pagodas there. When you arrive\nthere you can also ride around in some boats, take public transport, and use\nother unconventional ways to get around. They have zip-line trails you can\ntravel on as well as bike paths that you can enjoy. It is a place that has learned that tourism\nis important to the area. They have made great efforts to make it a more\ninteresting area for non-Japanese.
